PROBLEM DISCOVERY

PROBLEM DISCOVERY

PROBLEM DISCOVERY

A vast number of people in Vancouver, British Columbia ( within the age group of the ’20s to ’30s) with mental health problems are experiencing frequent claustrophobia, mood disorders. Because of spending too much time indoors.

Currently, people suffering from certain level of anxiety, mood disorder and depression are prescribed to go nature spaces such as as parks, beaches, mountains for hiking etc. The evaluation of the patients and prescription is given by overlooking the individual patients health profile.

INTERVIEW INSIGHTS

We interviewed five doctors to understand how they are currently tracking patients’ reports after prescribing them to go to nature spaces and also to understand more about the patient's behaviour while signing up for this program.

  • People are reluctant to search for green spaces nearby because they are busy with work

  • Doctors have busy work schedules and they want to avoid direct messaging with patients. But, they still like to see the progress of the users in terms of time spent and their mood in natural places

  • During follow-ups with patients, Doctors felt that patients are more ambiguous about their time spent in outdoor natural spaces activities

  • Spending 20-30 minutes, three days a week to regular three-day weekends in the natural spaces is helpful enough to lower stress with certain kinds of patients and improve their overall mental outlook

Gamification & Rewards: People are really bad at maintaining habits. Especially when people are suffering from mental health issues such as anxiety and depression. However, we have observed that a major competitor is using rewards and gamification features to motivate the user to spend more time in green space.

Community Engagement Programs: Organizing engagement programs in green spaces can be really helpful for people to engage with other people and share their journey.

Education Slides : Helping people to deal with anxiety and depression positively.

Notifications Trigger : can help patients to follow-up with their habit regularly, can update patients about nearby green zones ( through geo-fencing ), also alert them about their activity.
